MERCY KILLING

As a one-way butterfly
She only knew down
Even bright colors
Tarnish in the dark
Takes faith
To fly high
Fear of fallingΒ
Ties you to the ground
She lay pinned
Only to stare at the heights
Unobtainable bluesΒ
Held down by disbelief
Lying on her back
Only an occasional flutter
Dreams without wings
Donβt change where you are
βJimmy how cruel!! The poor butterflyβ
βHey! I was just putting it out of its misery,
After all a butterfly that canβt fly,Β
that has to be miserable!β

Hey, John.
I can't say why, really, but the image of a young Jodi Foster lying on her back in a seedy hotel in the movie "The Taxi Driver" popped into my brain-pan as I read this.
I sense the "butterfly" is a metaphor for a life much more substantial.
Jodi's character was a runaway girl trapped in a world of prostitution and drugs and Robert DeNiro (the taxi driver) felt he could be her savior.
He was wrong.
Excellent and expressive.
I enjoyed this raw and poignant piece of writing.

Bravo Sir so beautiful
Many flap weakly backs to the ground safer to be crushed than fly and fall.

Without it, then smush...
All in the hands of the holder...
