Poem -

MERELY SURVIVE

As our hearts are growing cold.
And less people who care.
Humanity once so bold.
Lift a helping hand if you dare.

In my life of forty years.
The number of humans have doubled.
Humanity lost in tears.
And the world troubled.

As a young boy a handshake was all you need.
We valued more back then.
The world had honor. It had creed.
More hands than pen.

Now we are in a race.
Forgetting those in need.
Not thinking about our place.
Fighting filled with greed.

With nearly eight billion souls to date.
And less caring every day.
Can you tell me of humanity's fate.
Have we truly lost or way.

We cannot say for sure what is to come.
But with each passing day we see how hard.
As the world grows more numb.
And the heart marred.

So open up your eyes and let humanity stay.
We are all still alive.
For and eased life and better way.
Where we all can strive......
       and not MERELY SURVIVE.
