Money

This world of material things,
Β And all the happiness it brings.
Β You with pocketful of cold coin and such,
Β That all turns to gold with a single touch.
Β
Worry-lines like cracks on the windows to a soul,
Β Fissure the surfaces with puck marked hole.
Β A heart full of penny pinching keeps company,
Β While leaving you feeling hollow and empty.
Β
Mistrust cowers deep when friendship's at stake,
Β Riches your companion while greedy hearts break.
Β Purse-strings hold you hostage in a clingy embrace,
Β Buy a happy smile for a frown-lined face.
Β
What's to show for all the years of hoarding?
Β Is all the loneliness and mistrust so rewarding?
Β Who will grieve at your bedside when you go?
Β Coins in a pocket remain cold, you know.
Β
Coffin lids close the same for all,
Β Grimm seals you in when he comes to call
Β I have an unhappy thought but itβs so true,
Β In the end, those riches will only bury you.

Great message to this poem Lisa.Β Pinned - SydΒ
So very well put. You can't take your treasures with you when you die. So much more to this life for you and I.
