Poem -

Monsters

“They only come out at night” they said
I check the wardrobe then under the bed
Eyes pinned for shadows on the wall
I cannot sleep a wink at all

“They only come out at night” they said
Yet in the day I’m full of dread
Lump in throat
I fear to eat
Life is easier when I’m asleep

”They only come out at night” they said
I tip toe every where I tread
I dare not step outside my door
I swear I’ve heard those monsters roar

“They only come out at night“ they said
Then why in the day do they mess with my head?
They whisper thoughts that make me cry
Then force feed me those questions - why?

“They only come out at night” they said
Yet every day my heart has bled
These monsters will not let me be
Because these monsters live in me!

The fish of the sea

Ooooh. What a dark write Gwen. A very exciting and engaging read. Really enjoyed the structure of this one a lot. Also sorry for being away for so long, but I'm catching up slowly! No new work from me until Thursday arvo Aus time for me. I have been really busy forming some work for a poetry competition so still procrastinating on my studies just in a different way lol. Again fantastic poem here. Love reading your work!

Being Me

These are the worst kinds of monsters! They are insidious and are a living nightmare. It's pretty easy to get rid of the monsters under the bed but the buggers inside you are a whole different kind of fear.

Great write ⚘x

Gwen, you had me on 'They only come out at night.'
Just love to read a dark one and anything to make a heart beat faster and your poem really delivers those said goods and in spades too.
And your final closing line is to die for.
A great read and as Stephen King said the worst monsters of all are human.
Thanks again and for sharing your dark delight.
