Monsters
âThey only come out at nightâ they saidÂ
I check the wardrobe then under the bedÂ
Eyes pinned for shadows on the wallÂ
I cannot sleep a wink at allÂ
âThey only come out at nightâ they saidÂ
Yet in the day Iâm full of dread
Lump in throatÂ
I fear to eatÂ
Life is easier when Iâm asleepÂ
âThey only come out at nightâ they saidÂ
I tip toe every where I tread
I dare not step outside my doorÂ
I swear Iâve heard those monsters roarÂ
âThey only come out at nightâ they saidÂ
Then why in the day do they mess with my head?Â
They whisper thoughts that make me cryÂ
Then force feed me those questions - why?Â
âThey only come out at nightâ they said
Yet every day my heart has bled
These monsters will not let me be
Because these monsters live in me!Â

Ooooh. What a dark write Gwen. A very exciting and engaging read. Really enjoyed the structure of this one a lot. Also sorry for being away for so long, but I'm catching up slowly! No new work from me until Thursday arvo Aus time for me. I have been really busy forming some work for a poetry competition so still procrastinating on my studies just in a different way lol. Again fantastic poem here. Love reading your work!

These are the worst kinds of monsters! They are insidious and are a living nightmare. It's pretty easy to get rid of the monsters under the bed but the buggers inside you are a whole different kind of fear.Â
Great write âx
They certainly are Being Me. Thank you for reading this one đx
Gwen, you had me on 'They only come out at night.'
Just love to read a dark one and anything to make a heart beat faster and your poem really delivers those said goods and in spades too.
And your final closing line is to die for.
A great read and as Stephen King said the worst monsters of all are human.
Thanks again and for sharing your dark delight.

Glad you enjoyed this dark one Shaun. I like a good spookÂ
