Mother dearest

Mother dearest

Oh mother why look at him that way
Her hateful gaze
As if looking at a wild rabid beast
And yet he still yearned for her genuine love
The affection he craved
Leaving his heart torn apart
A little child in him
All in shambles
Uglily crying in a little corner
Yet his eyes still reflecting
The very same child
Just a little more grown
His oh so delicate soul
Hardened as years went by
Caution at every step
But conflict always on his heel
Under his mother’s wing nevermore
Now fending for himself
Just a kid in a grown body
Labelled as a monster
For selfishly surviving
In a beautifully cruel world
His very first enemy
Mother dearest
With a disgusted expression
One he’s never seen
Setting him out into the cold
A little candle
Barely withstanding the weather
Still burning with desperation
Leading the little boy
Through a storm of emotions
Ending with a sky
Filled with hues of blue
At the end of the road
Kids with similar bruises
But different pasts
A universal feeling lingering
What one might call family
