Mother told me of the Phantom

Mother told me of the Phantom

On a dimly lit road she walked alone

one night (excitedly, she now told)

 crickets hissing in the bushes

stars shining bright (country road, no street lights)

an owl watched her curiously;

perched on the branch of a high tree

then she stopped, instinctively

 a hallow silence, only breath sounds

no crickets or nocturnal fray;

she’d never seen the night behave that way

 what she saw next, was incomprehensible

what looked like a giant, stood not far ahead of her

nearly the entire road he did straddle

leaving an open path in the middle

her sleeping house, was no more than a hundred feet away

it would take hours to turn around

 and circle back the other way

 the phantom stood his ground

right before the road began to descend down

(she laughs nervously, as if reliving)

then she prayed for deliverance

begging for the removal of the evil presence

 her eyes opened, and there remained the obstacle

with faith renewed and new courage gained

 she walked unharmed, never looking back;

'though she was scared as hell'

(this is her favorite story to tell)

Hi Chris, another great one here, wondering though is the giant a metaphor for something else?

cheers jeff

hey Jeff, thanks for comment, and strangely enough I was wondering the same thing, this story actually happened; according to my mom, but in my mind I thought of it as a metaphor; facing your troubles head on, not backing off, something like that, good comment, my friend....cheers

My Brother Poet Chris,

Your dear Mother so long ago, confronted by the Phantom.  A young lady whose valor superseded all her inhibitions as she trod straight through the very core of the Phantom, as even he kowtowed to her bravery.

Peace and Love,

xox Larry

A good Halloween scare here. Liked how the girl braved the way home passing the giant inspite of her fears and it's a great message. Nice write! -Mimi. xx

thanks for comment, Mimi, the 'girl' was my mom, the poem is an old Correia story she has told a thousand times, she has lots, lol....I'll write another one about a demon in a bed, I'll see how it turns out and decide whether or not to post it, be well....cheers
