Poem -

Mother tongue

With bitter heart I feel your cold,
Shallow betrayal of my love.
I burn in fire that scorch my skin from bones
And tear my gut and soul.

Born of my womb but no longer of me
You have no compassion for my sadness and loss.
You seek pleasure with those who caused me greatest pain
And who sought to shame and crush me.

Do I harden my heart from you whom I nurtured and love
Yes I must, you know not, nor care, for your cruelty.
As you grow away, so must I, and seek a new lifeĀ
Where I no longer crave your attention and care.
