A Mothers Smile

A child said to God one day

Let me go for just a while

To experience a life on earth

And see my mother smile

To see the love within those eyes

When I look upon her face

Let me go for just a while

To feel her warm embrace

I’d like to have a family

To help me learn and grow

I promise I will share with them

The knowledge you bestow

From the moment I am born

I will shower them with love

Until the day that I return

To you my lord above

God spoke back to the child

Holding back his tears

I will grant your request

For just a few short years

Your life will not be easy

You will have joy and pain

You will leave your mark on earth

When you come back to me again

Hearts will swell

And hearts will break

Prayers will soon be said

But all will be grateful

For the life you led

So I’ll send you with my blessing

To see your mothers smile
