Motion...less

Motion...less
A flurry of metal petals
moving in unison with the breeze
perched atop slanted rigid stems
rotating with eloquent ease.
The silhouettes hold me captive,
guardians of the land
such an embodiment of peace...
silent watchmen as they stand.
A striking vision of power
contrasted against vibrant skies,
one by one they are defaced
and their value slowly dies.
The blades are being purposely plucked,
stripping these landmarks of all duty,
leaving only cold and empty shells...
greatly diminishing their beauty.
With the pieces disassembled,
they exist like barren flowers,Β
standing only as useless structures,Β
incomplete, silver towers.
The world is a changing landscape
to which the windmills have fallen prey,
their lack of purpose speaks quite boldly
as they remain motionless throughout each day.

I have a strange affinity for windmills, so seeing them defunct and purposeless was the motivation for this piece.
brilliantly penned. Happy Holidays to you and yours
