Moving Me Down The Highway

Inspired by Jim Croce’s song “I Got A Name”
.
In the Fall of nineteen sixty-two, I was attending Ohio State;
At one p.m., Friday afternoon, I left for an important date!
I was picking my girlfriend up at high school, about eighty miles away;
I was commuting every weekend, because I missed her every day!
.
My high school classmate Fred Sherman, our baseball teams biggest star;
Who pitched fourteen years for the Tigers, was riding with me in the car!
I could not wait to see her, I told her I’d be there when school let out;
Waiting in the parking lot, with the students all about!
.
I was a little behind schedule, moving down old State Route 40 West;
So I put the peddle to the metal, it quickly hit 105 at my behest!
A couple of minutes later, Fred said, “A car is coming fast our way”;
I knew instantly it was a State Trooper, and this was not my lucky day!
.
I pulled over when I saw his flashing lights, he came to my windows side;
He said, “Son, what is your hurry?, I clocked you at a hundred and five”!
I replied, “Sir, I am very sorry, I’ve been up at OSU for several weeks”;
“I’ve not seen my girlfriend for so long, I’m headed back, her company to keep”!
.
He said, “Young man, I feel your heartache, I’ll put you down for eighty-five”;
“Slow down, and pay twenty-five dollars, I want you to stay alive”!
I was there to meet her when I said I would, this Officer so kind;
I’ve never forgotten his generosity, and how he saved me from legal bind!
.
.
This kindred Lawman
Could have made my life so tough
But he had a heart

Dear Deano,
Thank you so much.
I'm going to go read your latest now, and send you a "penny" for your thoughts.
Hugs, Peace, and Love,

Hahaha, yeah, you're right, Larry.
He could have locked you up in jail, impounded your car and kept you from seeing your girlfriend altogether.
You got L-U-C-K-Y, my friend!

Dear Dean,
To this day, I feel a little guilty about that little fib that I hadn't been home in six weeks, but I knew my ass was on the line. Fortunately for me, I was blessed with a kind-hearted State Trooper, who cut me a tremendous amount of slack. Initially, thinking it was my "unlucky day", it actually turned out to be my lucky one.
Thanks for your great comment.
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
