Moving On Down The Highway

Inspired by Jim Crocce's beautiful song "I've Got A Name"
.
All of a sudden in my rearview mirror, I saw a vehicle in my chase;
It was “Smokey Bear”, hot in my pursuit, I knew the music I had to face!
I pulled over and rolled the window down, he exited and came my way;
My heart was pounding out my chest, this was not my lucky day!
.
He said “Son, what the Hell’s the rush, why were you going so damn fast”?
I put on a face that looked contrite, replied “I’m heading home to see my lass”!
“I’ve been away from her for six long weeks” (I lied), “I have missed her oh so bad”;
“I’m supposed to be there by two thirty, and if I’m late she’ll be very sad”!
.
He looked at me and I knew right away, my ruse had touched his heart;
He said “Son, I’m giving you a break today, I’ve put eighty MPH on my chart”!
“But promise me you will slow way down”, I said “Thank you sir, I will”;
An “Officer and a Gentleman”, I think of him often still!

My dear Larry...
wind whips though his hair
heart races onward to love
that dreaded golf cart
{Erm...maybe I'm thinking of a different poem!?!}
your friend & fan,
J ;)
My Dear Friend Jason,
The wind was whipping through my hair
Until I was stopped by Smokey Bear
He gave me a frown
Said Son please slow down
Then wrote me a ticket that was fair
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
Wow that was a close call you naughty boy!!! I loved this piece it had me smiling right to the end!!
I adore you both and I`ve been pining for you so much that it ached my heart very much.
I LOVE YOU BOTH DEEPLY
G xx
Our Dear G,
"Boys Will Be Boys, Bad Boys, Bad Boys, But They Make Me Feel So Good"! Â In those days, I didn't make girls smile before the "happy ending". Â Do you see how frustrated I am, without my dear Georgina to have "Twit Club Contests" with? Â Talk about withdrawal, without my dear G, I feel like a piece of me is missing. Â (I'm restraining myself from making an off color comment about that too) Now to the serious side, now that Linda and I have our missing link back, our hearts are both smiling. WE LOVE YOU DEEPER THAN THE DEEPEST OCEAN.
All our love,
Linda and Larry XXX
You don't pee on Superman's cape...and you don't mess around with Jim. Â I love Jim Croce's music and it is sad we lost he and his music and funny lyrics in his tragic passing....
Hi JCG,
Yes, between him and John Denver, I can cry at the drop of a bucket. Â I'll never forget Jim Croce's almost prophetic lyric, "But there never seems to be enough time to do the things that you want to". Amazing that both of them died so young, in small plane accidents. Â Thank you for your lovely insight.
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
Â
A gentleman indeed...his type so rare...I love reading your stories beautifully "crafted" into poems...Well done Sweet Daddio
My Dear Sweet Rose,
Those were the days, but now, things have changed. Â The more tickets that a state trooper can write, the more vacation time they receive. Â I love that "you love reading my stories"! Â I also love everyone of your beautiful words.
All my love,
Daddio xxx Â
