Poem -

Ode to Paul

Ode to Paul

I know John
stated that
he wondered how
you slept at night
However I always
thought a mate
like you
would
sleep rather
well
Who wouldn't
with dreams
of tangerine trees
and marmalade skies
while humming
in your slummber
the melodious
notes of yesterday....

As part of the Fab Four
you contributed to
the revolution
An insurrection
where Prophets
spread their
news through
music
For it is through your words
that
the Black bird's
struggle
became
real
and the fool
on the hill
words
Transparent
thus creating
change to
society.............

Thank you for your input Tony!  I wrote this to purposely bring out the social injustices that the Beatles were apart of fighting.  Many do not know that Black Bird was written about the struggle of the African American Woman in society and the Fool on the Hill was in reference to Dr. Martin Luther KingJR.  The beatles played a significant role in changing Society's views during the Civil Rights movement.
I really Love Paul and he has inspired me most of my life.
THank you

Yeah I actually use several different Metaphors in this piece.  Obviously "Tangerine Trees and Marmalade skies" was in reference to Lucy in the Sky with diamonds, however describing Paul humming in his sleep to the notes of "Yesterday" actually was a true event.  Paul in an interview years ago, stated he got the melody of "Yesterday" from waking up to the tune and singing "All I want is ham and eggs"!
I like using the great word of others to portray strong imagery that they had so eloquently intended.
Thanks
Greg

here is another trivia
Paul premiered the Paul McCartney's Liverpool Oratorio at the Liverpool Cathedral.  This is the same cathedral where he was rejected when he tried out in the boys choir as a child.  The Choir Director was still there when he made his deput.  He asked the director then why he was rejected.  The choir Director told him "Paul you were not good enough".  Paul then asked the director "how am I now"?  THe director jokingly stated "your Okay"!
Tells you how when we fail, we just need to keep trying..................
