My Child

My Child

with those eyes so super sharp
dance with dolphins
feed swan and carp
look into the pools of mystery
climb tall trees
read books on history
collect sea shells and sands in jars
watch the clouds
peer into stars
ask the questions that probe deeper
be a dreamer
not a sleeper
savour youth and take your time
it's your life
not theirs or mine
talk to god in whisper and song
trust your instincts
it won't be long
before your hourglass starts to turn
your candle wick
begins to burn
and then all your child has absorbed
will be your childrens'
grace-award
'cause in this life we take then give
play-learn-work's
how we should live
the finer things are always free
for ears that hear
and eyes that see
as tongues will taste
and noses smell
it's all a gift, not a race
enjoy the ride but live it safely
be curious but kind
love with passion yet faithfully
trust the heavens' abundant cart
to replenish your supplies
and heal your broken heart
for sometimes you'll be held in chains
as seasons bring in drought and storm
though you shall still remain
of many moods your soul's a stone
gloom-peace-joy
but carry on
there's so much for you to alight
embrace your inner prism
from rainbow's runway take your flight
and know that if you fall or land
soft palm awaits
the father's hand
