Poem -

My Choice (Euthanasia)

It's my right to choose,

It's my body, isn't it?

Who are you to tell me what to do.

Can you feel my pain? every waking day.

Can you feel my energy ebbing fast away?

It's my right to choose.

While memories last and I'm in control,

Don't take away my wants.

While faces bring a smile on mine,

Daughter and son still find the time.

Who are you to say to me?

That I must still remain,

It's my right to choose.

Tablets, drips, bed baths,

That's what lies ahead.

Somewhere in the corner,

I might as well be dead.

Family drifting one by one,

Too pained to see me now.

Lonely and no speech to say,

Let me go in peace.

Who are you to tell me? NO.

Let me go and let them grieve.

Am a huge supporter of euthanasia, but worry about its control so it's not abused. I wholeheartedly agree with this piece, a difficult subject an you tackled it eloquently  :)

Pauline Lorrain...

Thank you Twisted,

It is worrying and that's the sad part of it, there will always be someone who will abuse situations but I do believe we should have a choice.

Hello Pauline...

There's a saying that is said in my little part of the world...

"If you were a cow I'd shoot you."

Animals can be put out of their misery...

Why can't humans?

Great write!

Thank you for sharing...

Hugs...

wow Pauline Lorrain, so well written,  the subject of euthanasia is indeed relevant and thought provoking, not sure if I am looking to be convinced either way on the subject, seeing this is a poetry site, but I love how you honoured the art form, and made a great statement at the same time, I respect that very much, this is straight forward and profound in many ways...bravo!

I also support humane euthanasia, and this piece describes the need so well. We do have a choice, and the choice for euthanasia needs to be a legal option. Thanks for writing, very well stated, and courageous!
