My Collection of War Zones and Other Disasters
I deliberately left a few out

I am no stranger to war zones
or natural disasters ..
I once drove an old green VW
through the streets
of Beirut, across Syria and on
to the Lebanon
for a laugh and sheer hell of it ..
All safely wrapped,
in a camouflaged aid package
I hasten to add ..
I also hit, New Orleans only
a matter of days
after Katrina had hit harder ..
And I saw with
my good eye, through smoke,
the temple
of the tooth, still blazing away
not long after
the Tamil Tigers left it in ruins,
to rot and decay ..
And yet, while I remain loathe
to reference the
aftermath, of that last Bentota
tsunami, because
a whole bunch of dear friends
drowned in it ..
I hereby confess, the Ukraine
and the earthquake
in Haiti, were no picnic either ..
And whereas
I am far from ashamed of them,
or my time in Africa ..
When possible, I avoid sharing
the fact I still allow
a wife to book, all the gigs for me ..

Hello Neville
To have seen such horror and walked in places the usual mere mortals have only read about is devastating, but the last line made me giggle
I actually thought "typical man!"
you can go through all the horrors as long as you don't have to book it yourself. My sisters and I still have to book everything for my father, even in his 70s he is the hardest worker I know but can't for the life of him book an appointment or just a takeaway

Thanks a million Lorna .. I am smiling now here too .. Say hi to the old fella from another one over here .. Neville x
Will do Neville
Xx
Nev you certainly have been through hell and back and lived to tell my friend.
And glad you're here and assume we don't know the half of it of what you have witnessed,
In the name of the betterment of good for the distressed and bedeviled people, people of all ages and nationalities by every conflict and war breaking out around them
And simply to deciding to give a shit, to get off one's proverbial back side and do something constructive , regardless of the potential cost involved for yourself and not forgetting all other like minded spirits.
Hats off to you Nev and those others around you.
And if you visit Wales it would be great to meet you and family and maybe, only maybe, buy you all lunch and a well deserved drink.
And Nev, somebody much wiser than me once said,
'A pat on the back is only a few vertebrae removed from a kick in the pants, but is miles ahead in results.'
All good things to you and all :)
I am honestly flattered Shaun but I really don't deserve and medals or pedestals, I got the bug early on when I was in the RAF and I have never been able to shift it .. not that I want to but it does get harder as one begins to burn more candles .. All Good Things back at you my friend ..
Neville
Nev, I mean it man every single word.
And you mention The RAF and you have served in it and respect for doing that.
I went to join many years ago to become an APP2 ( Air Photo Processor 2nd class)
to be a back room boffin and all that and would have joined for I passed the tests and exam and all that, but fate intervened and I met a girl.
That is some bug to certainly shift and yes, you begin to burn more candles and certain candles in life burn twice as bright but half as long.
Glad to know you are still here to write about it and my total respect to you for serving.👍🏼
Shaun :)
I was only a lad when I signed up .. we were going through a recession at the time and boy did I love the theme for the Dambusters .. thanks again Shaun & truly .. Neville
You are blessed Nev...even through the hell of it to have lived such a wonderfully colourful life, I don't mean that blithely, I envy you. I hope to travel and do as much good as you have when I'm dead.. it was not in my destiny whilst alive. And I don't mean to demean the horrors you have experienced either, I have so much respect for you my friend 💕
Thank You Marion 💕x
