Poem -

My daddy the Anzac

My daddy the Anzac

Waving goodbye to daddy my tears start to flow, they stain my mummy's blue dress now we must go

It feels funny at dinner tonight daddy's seat is an eerie sight

4 month later

A letter comes for I today, it came while I was out to play. It said
He missed me so and he saw the rivers flow, he thinks of me every night and while setting up his big campsite, right now he is on a beach in the Australian heat he likes looking out to sea
While he thinks of me
I tucked in my secret box with my daddy's book goldilocks

1 month later

daddy's radio crackles with old news and long dead soldiers interviews
I miss my daddy every day even when I have nothing to say

2 years later
after letters, news stories and fear this is what I hear knock...
knock ...knock someone bangs on the door
I sprint like someone poor
Opening the door I fall back in shock
It's my daddy, it's my daddy

He's home for good
