My Humber friend

My Humber friend

They say your just brown and muddy, but I love to watch your ebb and flow. The power and surge and your secrets you hold.

Sea birds drift, high tide or low,
wildlife just clings and follows your flow. Detritus gathers in your forgotten inlets, like unwanted memories.

When I'm struggling and finding things hard, watching this river relieves all my pain.
Even in a storm, your a pleasure to see, in waves or in calm, you steady my nerves.

Disused buildings shadow your banks, like rumours of some old industry...finished now forever.
A crane in decay and a skeletal remains of a boat, stranded in the mud. All gone now.

I'll always return, even in the dark, you lighten my mood and give me back that certain something that's missing.
