Vital signs by Mike Duck

Vital signs by Mike Duck

Stairways, to empty floors.
Fluorescent lights and corridors.
Endless nights, and echoed speech.
Somebody's leaving through electric doors.

Synthetic lights, and plastic screens.
In waiting rooms,  for hours it seems.
Shallow breath, and equipment crackles,
...then its the rush of the trauma team.

A lonely bleep, of a life support machine.
Heartbeat ok, or so it seemed?
Vital signs and forgotten laundry.
Lessons learnt, always take your pills!

Swollow down, that bitter pill.
You felt so good, but now your ill.
The doctor says, your looking pale,
and we'd better look inside you.

 In uniforms they take you,
your paralised they wake you.
Stairwells and elevators....
you'd could be better off at home.
You could be safer all alone.
