My Interpretation

My Interpretation

When I see those paintings of country I
feel I fit somewhere… symbols map my
place

place me in the scene and I will be one
with the land—though urban as it gets
and pale—will be comforted by familiar
frame

frame desert shades and dots and tufts
evoke dreams of immense sky and earth
that stabilise my nexus in the bigger
scheme

scheme is deliriously guilt-happy new art
hung upon my western wall like a religious
icon

icon is a window into the universal soul
and I take a snap to show the world I
belong

belong because women in rural Australia—
I never intend to meet—had dabbed and
deemed it so
