Ever Since I met You

Ever since I met you
My life has been a thriller
Filled with love
Mystery and desire
And thrills and spills

Every day
Filled with surprises
Filled with love
Filled with you

Your love
Always
Gives me such a thriller
You are indeed
The thriller of my heart
Forever until the day
I die.

Based very loosely on Michael Jackson's Thriller

Learning He was Jewish on Rosh Hashana
33

Sam Adams found out
Via DNA testing
On Rosh Hashanah
He was part Jewish.

That he indeed
was part Jewish.
maybe 10% according to the DNA test
confirming family lore.

He went to dinner with Jewish friends
Celebrating his first Rosh Hashana
As a Jewish man.

the next day while touring the holocaust museum
For the first time in his life
Sam Adams encountered three young white MAGA boys

Wearing red hats and making
Sexually suggestive jokes about Jewish women
While they were touring the holocaust museum.

One wondered if the Nazi guards
Were given an opportunity
To have sex with Jewish women
Before they were killed.

Sam Adams was very angry
and wanted to confront the MAGA boys
But finally decided what the hell,

It probably would not
Make a difference
They might think that he was just
An old Jewish man.
And dismiss his complaints.

The holocaust museum moved him deeply
And he vowed to himself
that he would do all he could to make sure
The world would never see another holocaust.

NEW PROMPT: This evening at sundown is the start of Rosh Hashana ("beginning of the year"), the Jewish civil new year. The Hebrew calendar is lunisolar, so the observance moves around year to year from the perspective of the Gregorian calendar, but it usually occurs in September or October. Write a story or poem centered around an event that happened on Rosh Hashana.

Having the recurring well known Sam Adams in this moving entry adds a feeling of bonding with the challenge portrayed. The disrespect revealed in the museum to Sam added strength to the message. Good job. thanks for sharing. Hope to see Sam again, soon.

Nice Weather for Ducks

In Seattle
During the winter rains
The coming greeting
Is nice weather
For ducks
Who loves to play
In rainy days
Of Seattle’s winter

Seeing the Taj Mahal

They say
There are two types
Of people
In this world
Those who have seen
The Taj Mahal
And those
who have not

Learning Korean

One of the hardest
Things I have done
In my life
Is learning Korean
A lifelong journey
45 years later
I am still a beginner
In Korean

My favorite time of Day

My favorite time
Of day
Is sunset
Cocktail hour
When I drink wine
Occasionally rum
Or whiskey
With my wife

Make It Stop

14 lines

Dear God

Please make it stop
This constant ablation
Of our dear leader

Who is acting more
And more like
A North Korean dictator

With cavernous public applause
By his minions

And a freeze on rational discourse
Infinitesimal criticism not allowed
In Trump’s America

Choose Democracy Cascade Poem

 choose democracy
 or fascism
or rightism

That is the question
We must answer
choose democracy

Do we have a king
or a dictator
Or fascism?

No King Day is coming
protest
rightism

The Cascade is an intriguing exercise in repetition, where each line of the first stanza is repeated as the last line in subsequent stanzas in sequence. Therefore, the length of the poem depends upon the length of the first stanza, as described and demonstrated in the following links:

https://www.poetrymagnumopus.com/topic/1195-forms-unique-to-shadow-poetry/#casca...

Cascade is a verse form found at Shadow Poetry that attempts to capture "the smooth cascading rhythm of a waterfall". It is set up with repeated lines similar to a Pantun. It was created by Udit Bhatia. The elements of the Cascade are:
stanzaic, made up of 4 tercets or 5 quatrains or 6 cinquains or 7 sixains etc.
accentual, the rhythm of natural speech.
unrhymed.
composed with a refrain. The lines of the first stanza are sequentially repeated as the last line of the subsequent stanzas. ABC xxA xxB xxC or ABCD xxxA xxxB xxxC xxxD or ABCDE xxxxA xxxxB xxxxC xxxxD xxxxE, x being unrhymed.
