My Truest Friend

My Truest Friend
Â
Hope your soul is where angels fly
Lifted you up from the place you died
Â
I send you my peace and my love
Upward to the blessed skies above
Â
Lord be with me in my time of grief
Losing you hurts way beyond belief
Â
You were my best friend going on twenty years
Shared the laughter the heartache and the tears
Â
Never believed I would live to see the day
Life would have us go our separate ways
Â
There was no time for long tearful goodbyes
My love couldn’t hold you no matter how I tried
Â
Search for your spirit through my tears of sorrow
It’s so sad letting go of all of our tomorrows
Â
In spirit you will live on in my memory forever
I will not forsake your blessed love no never
Â
The birds sound like they are calling your name
Without you my life will never be the same
Â
Without you the brilliant sun refuses to shine
I am going to miss you till the end of time
Â
My truest friend is what you always will be
Can only hope your heart is forever free

Excellent meter, and the rhyme scheme didn't seem forced.
There are so many people this poem can apply to, whether it be someone who lost a family member, friend, or had a connection to someone break in some way shape or form.
Happy writing!
Beautifully worded Gary, I'm sure your friend feels your sorrow.Â
