My Winter

My Winter

Mist, dew, frost and cloud
Strangers on a train
Off to work in darkness
At night-time home again

Muddy tracks and water puddles
Creeks flowing through the hills
Children tucked snug in their beds
Expensive energy bills

Sheep sheltering beneath the trees
Overcoats and fleecy sheets
Home-made soup on the stove
Onions, potatoes and baby beets

Madly dashing to escape the rain
Red wine sipped by the fire
Flat battery; the car won't start
Wet clothes in the dryer

Hail, wind and sleet
Hot coffee drank with friends
Coughs, colds and nasty flu
Icy roads and dangerous bends

Will this weather ever end?
Spring; please come soon
I long for blossoms and a warm breeze
Alas,  it's only June

Thanks I wrote this poem in 1996! My children were young and I was feeling melancholy. Much appreciated Julie
