Near Death

I stepped out of my body, saw the light but did not enter
Trying to escape deaths withering fingers
Scraping at my heart, squeezing my lung
Gasping for breath, is my time now come?
How come?
I loved and lived righteous
But what’s the purpose
To now come to this end
Alone again and again
My death, life’s beginning, a new birth
A cycle, mud returning to the earth
And my rebirth reflects in life’s new growth
And I can be seen in the flowers that sprout
My essence felt all about
And in death’s eyes I see no doubts
Seeing my end, a new beginning
Life, constantly creating
And renewing
But each day I am fading
Heading to great death flirtatiously prancing
Life is my mother and death is her sister,
       Her efflugents entrancing
And seductively enticing, eerily comforting
It mimics mother’s calling
And blindly I go walking
An into death’s arms I walk in
And her arms so welcoming
On her bosom I rest
“Mother, where have you been?”
Don’t fear, my dear, don’t worry about a thing
But I’m not your mother,
But her twin sister
I’m here to take you away on a journey through time
On your life you’ll reflect asking me for more time
And your salvation you’ll seek asking God to help you recover time
But it is my time
And forever you must rest
So close your eyes and rest
Place your head on my breast
And your mortality I will arrest
As I caress your soul giving you eternal rest
You’ll be proof of life after death.
