Never look back

Memories in the distance
Her troubled torment has past
Now she can look to the future
She is finally free at last
She shall concentrate on what lies ahead
Never to dare look back
Forget about her misery
Of that terrible knife attack
Her feelings of resentment
Tho they’ve haunted her a whole life thru
She must lock them from her mind’s eye
This is something that she must do
So innocently assaulted
Left all battered & bruised
By a random stranger
Who’s life had been abused
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth
Isn’t always the case
The culprit of this needless crime
Constantly suffers because of his race
Yes she still has anxiety
Time will never hide the scars
This lovely lass has got to find the strength
To lock it away in her memoirs
As her years fly by it shall not be in vain
Time is a great healer
It should deminish her perpetual pain
Mercifulness from her tortured mind
Is what she does implore
To find forgiveness within her heavy heart
& Everlasting happiness forevermore

Wow, so dramatic and powerful!Â
I can relate to the poem in many ways. If I sit still long enough, the images of past trauma streak past like an upside down roller coaster ride, through the dry painful desert landscape.Â
I try to forget, I try to forgive, most of all, I try to over come my fear of new people. I don't think I'll ever be freed of the past but hope that one day, enough time will have gone by and my old age, will free me from the continued assault -- left by my attacker(s).Â
Wonderful poem, although it's sad.Â
Good work, Jill. Made me think.Â
