Nevermore

Nevermore

Ghastly ghosts roam through my mind, but it’s not so bad, I find.
Inspiration’s given me spectral ideology.
Cemeteries, crumbling crypts; skinless faces lacking lips
smile in most peculiar ways, gruesome grins are on display.

Β
Ancient bone yards, old and worn, weathered corpses, frail, forlorn.
Stoic sockets, vacant staresβ€”open coffins, midnight scares.
Old typewriter's keeping beat, rend’ring horrors, bloody sweet!
Murmurs of the walking dead, churning, yearning, fill my head.

Β

Here now is my true confession, terror is my one obsession.
That is where my passion liesβ€”romance, love poems, I despise.
William Shakespeare, what a joke, bloated bard, a boastful bloke.
Don’t like horror, simply pass, no need to be cruel or crass.

Β

Each of us has diff’rent likes, some like nails while others, spikes.
Poets pen poems of their faith, others write of woeful wraiths.
Write what sets your spirit freeβ€”you control your destiny.
Naysayers are such a bore, quoth the poetβ€”"Nevermore!"

Quality poem Dean. I prefer the darker stuff. Brilliantly written.

Thank you for checking it out, Syd.
I appreciate your feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed the poem.
I prefer darker poetry myself.
It's cooler in the dark, away from the sun.
Thanks again,

The shows you've mentioned are some of my favorites as well, Cherie. My mom was adversely against anything that had to do with horror. I had to hide my Tales from the Crypt, EERIE, CREEPY, and Vault of Horror comics because if she found them she would throw them away.
You're right, inspiration is everywhere and it simply depends upon where we go to find it.
Thanks so much for reading!
