New Brighton Rock

Across from Merseyside dock,
on the lip of the estuary was
Point Rock..renamed New Brighton,
to rival the Sussex town of the same
name, where the richest of society ' took the waters' with .its Georgian grand houses and oppulance lavishly
enjoyed the Eastern delights of
The Pavilion, New Brighton would
have the same..a Tower..
and a Tower Ballroom..to create equalibriam..in a fashion,
567 feet it stood, the tallest building
in the neighbourhood, beating Blackpool
tower by 49 feet in height..
One would think these giants were
in a competition to reach the heavens,
Lattice iron fingers scraping the skies
over Flyde Coast line..
New Brighton, was the best attraction,
with a massive pool that could hold
2000 swimmers, and 8000 spectators,
it was huge, people ferried across the Mersey to indulge in all the fun,
the promenade is still the longest
in Britain..being 9 miles long..
The Wirral ..what happened to your
seaside town...it's gone..
Misfortune between wars, and little
care caused your tower to be highly
valuable for its weight in iron..
Whilst Blackpool stole your glory..
I must go to New Brighton...
and take in the sea air..
on The Wirral..in Wallasey...
and feel the vibrations from
yesteryear.
