New Start

Don’t change the subject just because you know you’re wrong

Admitting you’ve made a mistake would show me that you’re strong

Instead you’re like an ostrich and you bury your head in the sand

Why can’t you say you’re sorry and I’ll gladly shake your hand

No, you are too good for that, I don’t know who you think you are

This tactic is so over played, this time, you’ve gone too far

You think you’re playing poker hiding your feelings from the game

I thought our love meant more than that, you’re the one to blame

The empty shell you exist in does not appeal to me anymore

Pull your ostrich head out of the sand so it can lead you through the door

You’ve reached the point of no return to go forward is all you can do

You ask me what I’m trying to say, I’m telling you we’re through

Your ego left you believing you were safe to behave how you pleased

Your ignorance made me despise you, now I can let you go with ease

My heart would once have been broken at the thought of letting you go

I’ve realised now that all I’d have to miss are the feelings you never show

So in reality, there’s nothing to miss at all and I welcome my new start

New beginnings and a glad farewell to a man that has no heart

Debra…this reads so much like my marriage when it started to go bad.  I recognize in this poem the characteristics of a man retreating, taking one step back, and back and back…until he has disappeared and isn't the man you thought you knew.  Excellent write.
