Nightmares

Some conversation starts

A debate usually

But it’s a fun debate,

And I laugh.

The debate,

Or the conversation that followed,

Comes to a close

A goodnight is wished

And then the sadness settles over me

I’m fighting sleep

Wishing it was later

Trying to find something to pass the time

To help the hours pass by

It’s late enough

I can at least shut off the light

Kill time on my phone

Watch one of my favorite TV shows

And pass a few more hours in the dark

Once again I remember

The time represents happiness

But it makes me sad

Because there’s only six hours before I have to be up

And once again, I wasted another night

I need to sleep

The conversation, the debate

They’re in my head again

And I remember that it ended almost four hours ago

Then I grow sad again

And surrender myself to the nightmares
