Nights Back on It
Dancing was easyÂ
On powder fuelled nights,
Drowning out the drag
On shifty nightclub lights.
A shot or two, Fuck it, three,
A loud resounding blast
Of rifle fire to the liver.
You said that was your last.
Silhouettes of memoriesÂ
Reflecting through the smoke,
A cigarette, a few more drinks,
Then back onto the coke.
The music isn’t yoursÂ
It’s not the same chordsÂ
As those old resounding songs
And the voices to their words.Â
Laughing at a joke,
And glistening blue eyes,
You slowly pull a keyÂ
Now it’s time for goodbyes.
Always the same,
Walks home in the rain,
The taxi pulling overÂ
Just to ease your pain.
Back to the flatÂ
Of someone you don’t know,
About an half a hour backÂ
Was the time for you to go.
Regretting every touchÂ
As you remove your clothes
Not wanting it to stop,
You powder up your nose.
Can heaven overcome
The fires of your soul?
A flame all through the night
Never stopping to go cold.
That’s just where it ends
To begin in the morning
The same old sad regretsÂ
That resound in your mourning.
