The Pride of the Sun

Piercing through the haze
Of dust and musk above the sand
Where few spots of green, in glory, blaze
Like wildfire on that barren land,
The sun seemed as a lion
Gathering the storm of his pride
Before coming forth over the horizon
With that sleek and stunning strolling stride.
Â
Then, like a host of shadows,
An unhinged bulk preyed over the hill
On its way to find sweet meadows
And stalk the dirt for its next kill.
The sun envied the band of flesh
That moved like water over stone,
Sliding onwards to a land more fresh
Away from the reach of the sun king’s throne.
Â
As the fire was dying out,
And the world was going to sleep.
The shadow died inside that drought
Where children die and jackals weep.
The shadow gave its life to eyes
That stare, like diamonds, void of thrill
Into the night where the sun king dies
And the hyena feast on the lion’s kill.
