NO MORE PAIN

Sombre though her wishes
And as hard to carry out
Her death she did request
Certainty; no doubt
Her body it was tortured
A carcass of a past
Her mind it was still with her
That sadly was to last
Sprightly were her thoughts
Destined to carry on
Shattered was her body
A memory long gone
The damage was immense
When it happened; no return
Crumpled and so battered
Not move again; she’d learn
This girl had been so free
In her thoughts and in her soul
A dancer she would be
Her lifelong dream; a goal
It had been ten pitiful years
Since that fateful; hateful day
Pulled out of the wreckage
A place she’d rather stay
Cos her life, it was no life
For a girl; not for a beast
She existed; felt so twisted
Longed to be released
The hold that it had on her
Suffocating to the core
She struggled to adjust
Did not want this life no more
Her family they surrounded her
Soothed and held her hand
Made her prison like a home
She might as well be on remand
They suffered alongside
Their daughter; sister; friend
Daunted with the prospect
No sight of a fair end
But they carried on regardless
Giving love and helped her live
There was nothing this poor girl could do
Everything they had to give
Feeding was so hurtful
A baby she’d become
Her hands and arms stayed silent
Not just her limbs were numb
She longed for all the simple things
Her first kiss; to hold a hand
She couldn’t even move her head
Obey a simple command
A dog’s life would be better
At least she’d wag her tail
Run around and chase a ball
She couldn’t even wale
For some that may have been okay
But for her she couldn’t breathe
This was hell on earth
She had to take her leave
And so with heavy hearts
But legalities now planned
She flew into the sky
Holland; the place she would now land
For her parents it was tough
But they’d put a stop on it for years
Held her poor head up
And wiped away her tears
So they pulled themselves together
For a final show of strength
They kissed their daughter on the head
Kept their own fears at arms’ length
Doctors; they were kind
Their daughter oh so strong
This was what she wanted
Where she now felt she belonged
Strangers they would view it
Disapprovingly; be cross
But it was her life she was leaving
Gaining dignity; not loss
The quality of life
She had suffered for so long
No human should endure
It was cruel and oh so wrong!
The final dose was given
As she lay on her white bed
Beautiful in peace
Her last rites they were now read ..
... and the angels looked down kindly
They understood her plight
She hung onto the edge of life
For as long as it was right
But the time it had now come
She was ready: Set her free
No longer a caged bird
A song bird she’d now be ...

Rachel such a sad depiction of a situation nobody ever wants to find themselves in, a really difficult story to write but you nailed it for me, Euthanasia for me isn't really a choice, its a decision made when somebody sadly feels they have no choice, great write hun X:)
Thanks Jason, glad you liked, you have to be careful writing about subjects like this sometimes because there can be alot of strong opinion out there. Â So I appreciate your kind comments, glad you liked:)x
WOW!! That is just such a beautiful piece. Well done. Love G xx
Thanks very much Georgina, your kind words are much appreciated:)
Mrs. Gardiner,(wife of J.G.),
Restrictions in life never to be fully understood, without the changing of guards or being placed into the same circumstances, you have placed another...What rights do we surely find lost, once we have been given little to no means of freedom, are room to grow, spread our wings, are even try to advance beyond our means, of limited space in life.....A bird has no song to sing, if he has no voice to be given in the matters, that surrounds his physical existence....In this poem Mrs. Gardiner, you gave the victim,(the bird) his true voice back and his song of choice, now beyond many to choose from, (based on the many), he has now been given a chance to experience, from his new found freedom, in his chosen  environment, (His own), in comparison to the once few, due to his captivity. The path for he, once less traveled, is now to him, to be surely called his true home..Wonderful poem of life and the many restrictions we face, when limitations has been applied, not only on our area of domain but to our faced decisions and personal values in life as well...You knocked this one out of the park and left the cage door forever open......
Cheers,
Jim
Hey Jim (big man of Cosmo lol!!)
So glad to see you're back and in fine form, a Jimmy Arnold comment is like a piece of poetry in itself!! For me in this write it was about as you said; even as victims, we as human beings should be allowed a voice and to live as freely or even 'die' as freely as WE WISH! So glad you liked Jimmy, I look forward to more of your poetic interpretations of the work on this site lol! Keep em coming Jim, and I look forward to reading more from you too:)
Thanks Rach,..(Mrs,J.G.)
But this isn't just a beautifully written poem, this is an epic of a story well told, from a heart wide open poetess and in full emotional mood, you may have wrote this one quite some time before and delayed in your posting but i am glad you had the change of heart and allowed us in to its reading...This poem is one told in such clarity and with full intentions of touching the hearts of your many readers, not only the ladies enjoyed it but the men did as well and it was delivered quite well and very strong. We all now are walking around without our, (as Jason has conveyed) hind legs, and graciously accept and enjoy the new deformity quite well...(smile)Â
Hail to the queen,
Jim
Good write. Congrats on your winning nomination, My applauseÂ
