Poem -

Not Enough

At last my monthly ration has come
the battle to write now won
My new pen and five blank pages
completely filled with weeks to go
I sent a letter to my former church
behind bars; me they do not know
I've paid for a punch with many years
each one watered by countless tears

Today my letter was returned
my heart sank; this pain earned
Two more years left to endure
the hardship of not existing
Against this crushing weight
of despair I'm still resisting
Slowly my pen again fades with use
after this perhaps I'll tie the noose
