The Ocean.

Atlantic comber, vast and steep

drive endlessly across the deep.

Here whales and dolphins romp and play,

and sing their ocean serenades.

Though seldom heard by human ears,

these are the songs that Neptune hears.

-----------------------------------------------

Huge rollers break, and thund'rous bores

are carried now towards the shore,

they crash and break upon the beach,

the very sand grains to beseech,

"Come, play with us among the waves!

Don't stay and be the shoreline's slaves!"

---------------------------------------------------

Sunlit waters, splashed with gold;

seagulls swooping, steep and bold.

Soft waters ripple, blue and calm

on sandy beaches 'neath tall palms,

whose elegance and waving graces

make tropic islands wondrous places.

---------------------------------------------

Those crashing waves that sound like cheers.

Soft ripples, music to my ears.

The splashing hiss of rain on sea

has magic sibilance to me;

Whilst water drops, like gleaming jewels

enchanting plop in limpid pools.

-------------------------------------------

Like ghostly galleons on the breeze

silver clouds sail moonlit seas.

On burnished waters far below

the twinkling lights of shipping show;

whilst sparkling phosphorescent tracks

flow from the bows of fishing smacks.

----------------------------------------------

Can I explain to other ears

emotions that the sea makes dear

upon my senses; sounds and sights

that demonstrate the ocean's might.

That thrill, and calm, and sometimes shock,

and sometimes almost seem to mock.

--------------------------------------------------

The tang of salt upon the air,

the cobalt sky when weather's fair.

Bright golden sands upon a beach

to all of us are within reach;

 from all of this, you surely see

how much the ocean means to me.
