Ode To The Erasure

Erasure,
how you pave a path,
to cut through
the unwanted spew
and aftermath.
Challenging the page,
you are fearless
brave.
Self-sacrificing your own skin,
to rid the paper
of unsavoury behaviour.
In body
you have a rubbery scent
hell-bent on perfection,
you are a projects redemption,
the hope that can adorn an image to form.
Highlighting those deep crevices,
you are an errors nemesis
the right to the wrong,
ever marching to your own song.
Never to grumble
as you crumble,
your intent is always crystal clear.
No time for thinking
as your body is sinking,
dispersing whilst purging
merging space with matter,
until you rid the lines
of unwanted chatter.
Through hues you trudge
yet never hold a grudge.
At times
you graze the page
and smudge.
But in your formless state,
you bear a far more eerie fate.
The stealthy pickpocket
the giver of space.
Like a leach you suck out to silence,
cutting the voice that speaks of violence.
The invader
which likes to raid
all those memories
life gave
Erasure,
you have one fixed motion,
to rid all you touch
of substance,
emotion.
Ever devout to live without,
a slow creeping thief
or a quick silent shout.
Removing that what once felt,
the product of an empty shelf.
Content to even erase the selfā¦

Thanks JP for your kind wordsĀ

For all those of you out there yet to find these words ... Take note, this is a splendid example of the kind of poetry that makes this readers mental muscle flex .. having already read through it so many times I have now lost count and get this, I've not even had my breakfast yet ..Ā
On a couple of occasions I thought I got it cracked but then, the doubts crept in and that is where the flexing became a pleasurable ache .. I just wanted to make sure, so had to read it again and again .. Until at 07.03 a.m UK time I just had to go stir my porridge before letting it cool down and heading out with an empty belly .. I was however, a very contented guy having by then arrived at the conclusion that this particular poem of Gwens served to further reinforce my growing opinion that she is one helluva scribe and threw further light on her amazing versatility as a poet ..
This just has to be one of my faves .. and I am sure to be back later after work .................. NĀ
Wow! Neville, I don't think a compliment gets any better than that my friend. You just made my day :) THANK YOU for your wonderful words here, for spending time on my poem and reflecting deeply. I am beaming. I almost regretted posting it too. Thank you for boosting my confidence today and making me a very happy writer š š x
seems we got ourselves a win win Gwen I am so glad you did post .. x
Hi love...perfect work as usual Gwen. To me this whole work.screams frustration and rage and a little self loathing. I know you are an artist and like a photograph rarely captures atmosphere so sometimes the images we create seem never to do justice to the living flowing memories and then the loss becomes enormous again because we cannot recreate it in art or in life and this becomes a conflict of agonisingĀ proportions...triple loss if you like...the fact, the memory, the recreation.Ā
Course I could be entirely wrong ...hugs...Will pm.you soon xxx
Hi Marion, I always love how deep you read. It never disappoints me :) I totally agree, time seems to make memories fade. No matter how hard we try and recapture, it just lacks the vibrancy of the real thing. Some memories seem to disperse eventually. You can't bring them back to the surface. Which yes makes you grieve all over again. It's a vicious cycle. Thank you for always leaving your insightful feedback šxxĀ
Wouldn't it be handy if we had an erasure that would rub out our "oops" moments. Oops, never mind let's do that again. But it goes deeper than that ... way deeper. This is an extra ordinary write. You are soo clever Gwen x
Hi Tina :) oh wow wouldn't it be so helpful to remove all those errors in life, all the regrets. Thank you for your fab thoughts on this piece my talented friend ā¤ x
An absolutely AMAZING look into the power and versatility of poetry itself......showing us the microscopic and beautifully realistic aspects that allow a true poet to flex their creative muscle......this is an extraordinary Ode.....so incredibly observant and creatively original.....its phrasing sublime....its imagery STUNNING......the fact that on any given subject this poetess can take the reader way beyond their own understanding and enhance their comprehension of the subject matter at hand!!....Miss GWEN......your pen is mighty....your mind singularly original......and your ability to create is "Off the charts!".......PINNED for perfection!!......Wow!!......you floored me with this one.....Really can't say enough about how good this really is!!......LOVE & ROCKETS!!.......T xoĀ : )
Hello Tony, what can I say. You have been a truly amazing friend to find. I doubt this poem would of been written, had you not inspired me to look at the remarkable poetry of an Ode :) So I will say āThank youā Ā my good friend and most clever poet. Thank you for the inspiration and the belief in my writing. I was nervous to post this, as worried Ā I had messed up. So the feedback has been amazing and really you all boost my confidence, which for me has always been a struggle to gain. So thrilled you liked this Tony. Ā I will never tire of thanking you for your kindness and support here on CosmoĀ
