Old Habits Die Hard

I wake up with the alarm
And put it off and put it off
Till eventually I have to
Get out of bed

And I get ready
For the day ahead
Sometimes with a feeling
of zest.

I do not always enjoy the work
That I do
But I can always try my best.
Sometimes as the day carries on
I end up feeling rather stressed.

And so, once again
I end up in the pub
Hoping my mother won't
Find me there:
Drinking until my worries have gone
And I have no reason to care.

Then I'm hungry and so
The Indian restaurant calls,
So I go for chicken curry, lamb or meat
And hope that my mother's friends
Don't see me there
As I sit and I drunkenly eat.

It's expensive.

Then I stagger home thinking
That "this time" I'm giving up drink

But a few days later,
Another stressful day:
Into this pattern I once again sink.
