THE OLD RADIO

Another lonely dawn of deep drifting snow
She wakes up alone with an old heavey heart, feeling nothing.
Nothing but loneliness and the cold.
She`s just remembering the life she had so long ago.
As she rubs away the ice from her window pane
She sees its starting to snow heavy again.
She painfully and slowly makes her way to her fireside seat
Her only friend the tabby cat curled up at her feet.
She sips her tea as she daydreams of all those years gone by
Of her happier times
Her old friends and close ties.
She`s remembering all the love he gave to her so tenderly
But he`s long gone.
So she just sits there heartbroken
All alone and sadly she cries.
She turns on the old radio
Now her only treasure.
It was the last gift he gave to her
It always gave them both so much merryment and pleasure.
They`re playing all the old love songs of her youth
All those years sadly long gone.
She has trouble believing that eighty years have since flown.
She sits there all alone, cold and with tears in her eyes.
She`s back in the time of those heady days gone by.
She sighs as she thinks of the beautiful couple they used to be.
They were so in love, all hail and hearty.
She`s remembering their wedding day!
And long gone hectic Christmas parties.
In her mind she opens the door
Then suddenly with a tight and loving warm embrace!
" My darling sweet valentine " he roars.
" Come sit with me my precious one
Oh my darling girl, you`re the one I`ve been waiting so long for "
The next morning a neighbour came round to see
Worried that they hadn`t heard a sound, not even a squeek.
They found her just sitting in her favourite chair
The cat curled up on her knee.
She had the most beautiful happy smile on her face.
One they had never seen the old lady ever wear!
She was at peace now
In his arms again and just so beautifully carefree!
