Ole Molly

Ole Molly

Ole Molly: A Ghost from my Childhood

Please hold your breath—don’t open those eyes—
for she’s very near in her demonic disguise.
Pointed teeth, sharp as razors, her talons, they tear
and she’ll bleed you dry as you’re lying right there.

Her eyes, black as onyx when on the attack;
a heart made of coal—with a soul just as black.
She has no compassion, no mercy she’ll show.
When Molly comes ‘round, she drags you below.

The stuff made of nightmares, Ole Molly, she’s named.
and if you should scream you’ll be tortured and maimed.
She’s shadowy sinew—the darkness, her cloak.
She’ll smile all the while as you die when you choke.

Her laughter’s pure evil—her image, quite ghastly.
She speaks with a voice that’s so vile and raspy.
If you should hear her hovering o’er your bed,
I am sorry to tell you, you’re already dead.

Thank you, Greg.
I usually just write about whatever scares me the most so it comes across as real and not pretentious.
I appreciate your comments and I'll be sure to read your poem.

Thank you, Wayne.
I wrote this based on a recurring night terror I had as a youth.
I'm very happy to say she's gone now, LOL.
Much obliged for the read & review.

I used to have a lot of night terror's when I was younger, to the extent I had to go to specialists, so to a certain degree I understand this write ?

I hate to hear that anyone suffered night terrors, Wayne. But I am glad you understand.
Thanks again ~Dean?

Thank you so much for reading and commenting, Cherie.
Ole Molly was a recurring nightmare I had as a kid. I haven't the slightest clue who she was or why I dreamed about her. That makes her presence even creepier to me.
Hugs!❤️

Ok...I just wrote you a VERY healthy comment and the whole thing disappeared when I hit the button to save it!!....S.O.B.!!.....sorry, made me angry!!... I'll give you the short version now......I REALLY am taken aback at your generous offerings....... Brilliant in there formatted perfection...... to convey this type of dark poetry takes practice.... and you've obviously put in the work....... because this work is flawless........ taking on subject matter close to your heart and leaving it out there on a platter of bloody curiosity for all to poke at!!........ personally, I would give you COSMO'S award for " Scribblus Emeritus "......didn't mean to make light.... quite the opposite!!...... Another well forged pen..... straight from the deep!!....... Well inked my friend!!........LOVE and ROCKETS!!....... your cyber-friend and admirer!!....T xo ??☀☀♥ ?

Hahahaha...'Scribblus Emeritus', you say, Tony?
I kinda like that, heh-heh.
I know how frustrating it can be when you spend a good deal of time on a particular review and feel you've said what you wanted to say perfectly, only to have it wiped out by...well...by who knows what?
That's happened to me here at Cosmo more times than I care to mention.
Suffice it to say that no matter what you say, your comments are always cherished and taken in the highest regard. Your glowing review of Ole Molly is no exception.
Thanks so much for reading, my fiend...e-r-r-r-rrr, heh-heh...I meant friend of corpse...course.
Dammit...

Funny you should say that, Nigel.
My son said it sounded like an episode of Rod Serling's Night Gallery.
Heh-heh-heh.
I loved that show, along with the Twilight Zone which came before it, and admired Rod Serling's work very much.
Thanks so much for reading!

SCAREY!!!! Thank god she’s gone and doesn’t see you anymore! I have recurring nightmares still, not as much as when I was younger but bloody scarey. Freaky pic too! I think it’s taken from the film “mama”? I love a horror flick me. Probably why I have nighmears lol! Great write! ❤️❤️ Xxx

Hey, Lucy.
Yeah, it looks like Mama, doesn't it?
But no, actually it's from the new Stephen King "IT" movie. She's a demon that comes out of a painting in a priest's office.
Same artist I'm sure.
She also looks a lot like Ole Molly—the ghost that haunted me as a kid.
I was just eight-years-old when she began appearing.
And people wonder why I write the sort of things I do, heh-heh.
Thanks so much for reading.

Hi Dean, this is a nightmarish write. It reminds me of having night terrors when I was a kid.

I wrote this based on night terrors I had as a kid, Syd.
I don't know where Ole Molly came from, who she represented in my waking life, or how she invaded my imagination in the first place.
I was only about eight or so when she first began to appear.
Suffice it to say she looked a helluva lot like the demonic entity pictured here from Stephen King's new "IT" film.
Thanks very much for reading.
Hope you have a great weekend.

You write with such clarity and depth that I worry about how you must have dealt with this as a child...I hope you had lots of reassurance and love around you hun,,,its terrifying to read ...but how much more so to feel all that darkness, which you manage to express flawlessly. This is an intoxicating read and in a genre that  you really excel at..great job! Thank you for sharing this Dean..I wish you only ever peaceful dreams my friend xx

You're very kind, Lodgiana.
I deeply appreciate your personal and heartfelt comments.

I've been writing prose now for over 20 years but just recently took up writing poetry. I had a very accomplished poet once tell me that you must learn to tell a story effectively to be an effective poet. She said it was one of the reasons Poe was as accomplished as he was.

In 2010, I had a massive heart attack and an out of body experience. For nearly four minutes I was clinically dead.
I watched a paramedics team try to resuscitate me through a veiled, misty hole on the black, glass-like surface I stood on.

I won't bore you further with details, only to say that I survived.
Coupled with PTSD from my time spent in combat as a US Marine Corps sniper in Grenada, 1983, and the night terrors—both as an adult—and as a child...
Well, it makes writing dark poetry come very naturally to me now.

Sorry to ramble on so. I just wanted to give you a little history on why I feel compelled to expel my demons through poetry.
Hugs to you!!!
