On Calvary

I was there
When you were nailed to the tree
Standing in the crowd
Wondering why you would die for me

Three days
Is a long time to wait
When questions are unanswered
And all you feel is shame

I was there
Just the twinkle in your eye
It wasn't fair
The way they nailed that sign

And when they laughed
I was filled with hate
When they cast their bets
I know you felt the weight

Was it me?
Did I drive the nails
Was I to blame?
It's more than I can tell

On Calvary
My hope is restored
On the hill where my Savior died
To try and save the world
Despised and rejected
Shamed and neglected
All for me
On Calvary
