one wish

If we have a chance to make one wish 
What would that wish be
A very good friend a couple days ago
Ask this question to me

And I know what my answer was right away
But still, I had to keep it subdue
It was pure, simple and true
So I said “I want to spend my life with you

Then that really had me thinking
As I kiss her goodnight and walk out my door
So I said to myself “ I will look around the world
And find out the things that others wish for

some people wish just for a drink of water
for at the moment, that’s what their hearts desire
and some people wish they could be free
and not surrounded by a fence of barb wire

some people cannot speak
so they wish for a voice just to talk
And the blind wish for their eyesight
While the cripple wish to stand up and walk

Some wish their children will come back home
And not be picture on a police station's wall
And some people who are lonely
Just wish if someone will call

many wish for fame and glory
Some wish to be on a winning team
I know that Azad and Lesley
Wish for some of my knickerbockers glory ice-cream

Some wishes are for simple things
Some wishes are big or small
Some wishes are for everything
And then some people don’t deserve a wish at all

Some people will wish for peace 
But then they can't love their next door neighbors
But if you wish for goodwill in the world
Then goodwill have to start with you and pass it on to others

Everyone has wishes to ask for
Some are selfish and some are not
And we all wish to reach the end of the rainbow
To find the golden filled pot

Everyone wish to be rich
And that is a true and honest fact
And you can't blame the common man for wishing for that
Because everyone got that monkey riding on their back

People will always ask for wishes
as long as the skies are blue
But everyone seems to forget
That God also has a wish too

And we can make gods wish come true
Because it's all that he ask of us 
Is to make this a world with peace, love, and understanding
Until we await the return of Jesus

But the world today is in such a mess
we all are so busy thinking about our self’s 
while the holy books is collecting dust
just sitting there on our shelves

it’s a sad world we live in today
with terrorism and crimes and 
the total disregard for human suffering
and we wish if it would all end and
the dawn of peace will begin
but we all know that sadly that is just wishful thinking

And before I end this poem today
I want to tell a special girl “ I love you
And if I only have one wish
I would wish only the best for you
