Only human

there’s only so much
that one can do when
life shoots bullets their way.
bullet to the head;
pain seeping it’s way into the brain.
bullet to the chest;
tearing your flesh,Â
divulging the one part of you
not yet poisoned by materialism.
bullet to the leg;
weakening you whenÂ
you live life on the edge;
distraught by those that surround you.
bullet to the foot,
piercing twinge,
the one space whereÂ
you hate to have,
yet you are you
because of it;
tears you apart,
your Achilles heel.

Incredible metaphor. Life and the challenges that come our way. I really liked how you used "bullets" to mean tough experience/events in life.
The beginning is my favorite part:Â
We're all so challenged at one point or another in our lifetime. One day, there could be a bright, warm sunny day, then we hit the lottery for $50 and feel like we are dancing in the stardom, to discover when we return home that our loved one just passed away.
The next day could be filled with roses, but by nightfall, an ambulance or firetruck is needed. We just never know from one moment to the next, what will transpire in our life that we will have to be strong enough to make it until the next challenge. Praying for less tragedies.Â
Thanks for sharing your poem.Â
