The Open Road Calls My Name

The Open Road Calls My Name

The sun was brighter than any day she could remember,

Leaving home with a tear and a smile, her mood melancholy

It felt much harder than she ever expected it be,

But that passed quickly, looking at that brand new red Toyota

Off to a new world, taking to the open road at nineteen

Years disappearing as if they were a dream,

Voices she once took for granted kept her company though

Refusing to leave and let go, chasing her like the playful dogs

She used to feed the food she never wanted to eat

The sound of laughing children, filled her thoughts,

Disappearing, as she smiled at the wind taking hold of her hair...

Driving away, peeking for a second in the rear view mirror
