Poem -

Our Parents

It hits you deep sometimes,
When you are all alone,
Reflections of a past,
When you lived at home.

Cousins all together,
Playing out in the yard,
All those precious moments,
Back when life wasn't hard.

The excitement of Christmas,
And the traditional spread,
Laughing, telling jokes,
A paper hat on your head.

A day with my mother,
To watch her busy day,
Still warming with a smile,
Or just a quick game.

A day with my father,
Fishing rod in my hand,
Or help with the lawns,
Or the beach in the sand.

So much has happened,
And as life flies along,
There is so much to tell them,
But I can't now, their gone.

Blink your eyes and you've missed it,
It is gone in a day,
I miss the people absent,
I'm sure they know, in a way.

At the time it seems like forever, but looking back it really isn't.Β
