Out Of My Reach

Tomorrow, at a local auction, there’s an item I covet beyond compare;
A 1798 U.S. Five Dollar Gold Piece, the type with flowing hair!
I am mesmerized by its beauty, having been a numismatist over sixty years;
But I will never be its owner, which brings my eyes to tears!
.
Because just only fifteen years ago, our coffers were replete;
And I’m sure, that with my passion, no other bidders could compete!
I’d have brought this treasure home with me, absorbing its beauty every day;
The amount I had to spend on it, a very small price to pay!
.
For there is no assessment of magnificence, when the collector is one’s heart;
That loves it not for the investment, but to hold and never part!
So I’ll have to watch it sell to another, wishing, “if only it could be mine”;
Cursing this monetary adversity, my cheeks adrip with brine!
.
.
Oh, dear Golden Coin
If I could just make you mine
I would e’er love you

My Dear Kieran,
Long time no see. It is so nice to be in touch again with my "brilliant" friend.

It must be nice to have such a passion Larry...nice work ??
My Dear Marion,
It is nice to have this passion for beautiful and rare coins, but on the other "side of the coin", (no pun intended, of course), it is very frustrating not being able to own them.
All my love,
Larry xxx
Ha...I know that feeling!! But you do own them Larry, you have photographs, the history of them and a passion for them, you write poetry about them....you own your love of them, that's yours forever ?
I use to collect penniesÂ

Dear Greg,
Way back when, coin collecting used to be an affordable hobby, but today, the prices are so high, that it's a passion that only the wealthy can afford. Thanks for the nostalgic comment.
Love,

My Dear Tony,
Sorry for the late reply, but it's been a crazy ten days. Like I told Cherie, in the early 60's, I was a dealer in rare coins, and had many choice and rare specimens. Today, I still covet one, when it becomes available, but my passion is superseded by poverty. But, you did "do something for me" with your heartwarming words.
Love you Bro,
Larry xxxÂ
