Fast mover! Fast mover!
Coming out of the bright sun!
A deadly Messerschmitt Me 262.
On its lightening attack run.
P 51 Mustang's guard the bombers,
Their crews call 'our little friends'.
Each fuel drop tank is jettisoned,
As the skies they try to cleanse.
Each Mustang out classed for speed,
By the 262's Jumo 004 jet engine.
But each pilots skill and resolve,
On each bomber crew is depending.
Just one solo German jet attacking,
Its nickname is called The Swallow.
Shoots down one American B 17 bomber,
But as of now no more will follow.
The Mustang's have a bead on him,
Now turning to make his second run.
One diving at full fatalistic speed,
This pilots nerve not to be outdone.
His Rolls Royce Merlin engine screaming,
At the same time furiously firing whilst diving.
A total of six Browning machine guns seeding,
The empty space where a jet will be arriving.
The Messerschmitt is laced and peppered,
Running down its entire smooth length.
Then catches fire and violently explodes,
One less in dwindling Luftwaffe strength.
But the pilots who oppose each other,
Are all fearless brave aviators indeed,
And when some are clearly out-performed,
They do overcome and valiantly succeed.
Dedicated to the memory of Clayton Kelly Gross.
P 51 Mustang Ace.
354th Fighter Group.
November 30th 1920-January 10th 2016.

Hey Shaun! love the poem! I kinda study WWII and I have a poster I wish you could see! An artist created it then signed it and got the ace redtail that it was a drawing of to sign it also! It has his likeness and two p51s on it. I got to pick it out as gift he insisted I pick. I picked that one because they defended my Dad's B17s .I may use it in a poem someday. All the best! ................Jim
Jim you have my blessing to use it however many times you like and reproduce as you see fit.
Your dad seems an amazing and brave man to fly in a B17 over occupied territory.
I know aboutĀ the Schweinfurt raids and the terrible losses endured.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and the P51 and Me 262 were deadly but beautiful designs.
I have another poem called Achtung! Spitfire! you also might enjoy
Which if you want can put up now, in fact I will.
And in it a mention of the many nationalities who bravely fought in The Battle Of Britain.
Thanks Jim and for me it's great to hear of the WW2 exploits of those who were there to fight tyranny for it keeps their memory alive and deservedly honoured.
Take care and use as you see fit.
I'll up that spitfire poem in a couple of minutes and I wish you well.
Jim Achtung! Spitfire! is also yours to use as you see fit sir.
I wish you well and thanks for sharing your fathers story.
Take care and all the best to you and your family.
