Poem -

Paid prisoner

Paid prisoner

To be hard at work
Working hard
But forcing back tears
Of absolute mirth
Is to find no enjoyment
In day to day life

These four walls are killing me
My superiors
They see me work two roles
But to them I'm inferior
Just another number
With no hope of a rise

Yes I can see your disdain
Yes I can see your dislike
Every eye contact
Stabs me like a knife
I know you think me weak
But I'm stronger than you

No I don't have a degree
I dont belong to the big boys club
I'm a women and a mother
Working a full time job
Managing my time
Working it through

I'm more intelligent than you know
I have balls of steel
No I'm not just another hamster
Running on the corporate wheel
I want to make a difference
But you stop my growth

It's feeling more hopeless
As each day is done
I cried again today from anger
But I have to keep marching on
For you see,  I can't let you win
For this reason, I have hope

I'll not let you win
I'll not let you beat me
You're ignorance spurs me
On to be
A better person
A better woman
