Part 5. Your Tongue

Some years have passed; I learnt your tongue,
I now know what you say.
My language almost goes unheard,
Much to my dismay.
But now and then new slaves arrive,
With confusion in their eyes.
Some seek me out and speak my tongue,
To ask of their demise.

I look at you and feign ignorance,
Of the words I hear you speak.
I hear the repugnance in your voice,
And sense your tones contemptuous reek.
I will carry on deceiving you,
As you curse me day to day.
I will speak my tongue in lullaby,
To sooth our pains away.

And I will teach my children,
To speak my native tongue.
I will tell them of their homeland,
So they may tell their young.
I will speak my tongue in whispers,
When your ears have gone to sleep.
I will speak my tongue so it may live,
I will speak my tongue and weep.
