Part 6. I Am Old Now

I am old now, and will never see my home again,
I am old now, and will never see family or friend.
I am old now, and will never hear my father’s voice,
I will never feel his gentle touch
Or feel my mother’s kiss,
I am old now, I am old.

I am old now and cannot tend your fields no more,
I am old now, and bent towards the floor.
I am old now, and fear I grow too weak.
To take the whip and walk away,
To carry the cotton,
To bale the hay.
I am old now, I am old

I am old now, and am no use to you,
I am old now, broken and bruised.
I am old now, let my body lay,
Just for a while
It won’t take long,
I’ll cause no fuss, I am not strong.
I am old now, I am old now,
Your slave has gone.
