Penny Flapjack

Penny Flapjack, like a warm breeze,
Plucked my heartstrings from a deep freeze.
Every evening, at the station,
I would see her working there.
Penny Flapjack, curly black hair;
Short and slender, une petite fleur β
Like an angel sent from heaven,
I loved to chat and joke with her.
Penny Flapjack flew me up high,
Through the dark clouds to the blue sky;
She was sunshine on a grey day;
Hoped sheβd never go away
Penny Flapjack to my knowledge,
Late September, went to college.
Studied Spanish, French or German.
Never saw her face again.

(Penny was a student from Manchester, who worked for the newsagents in Monument Station, Newcastle in 2007, from where I often bought a flapjack on the way home from work. She always had a smile on her face and had a good word to say. She was myrrhΒ at the end of a long, hard working day. She left toΒ attend Newcastle University in September 2007
