Perils of Arthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis Flare Up
Hands clasped together before I close my eyes,
praying for deliverance from pain I despise.
Pop my medication, prepare for what’s in store,
contemplate for later, aware of needing more.
Like a blunted dagger stabbing in the night,
intensifying throb corroborates my plight.
Unrelenting flare intrudes my dreamful state,
groggily I rise, compelled to slay this fate.
Heat a pack of wheat, aggravating drill,
undesirable repeat, I down another pill.
Sorely craving sleep, shuffle back to bed,
petrifying thoughts crossing through my head.
Burning penetration, deeming so unfair,
dismal edgy night, broken by despair.
Rousing shortly after, heat pack fallen cool,
carelessly I stagger, persistent pain so cruel
Brew some calming tea, drop and smash the cup,
crying so pathetically, unbothered to clean it up.
Losing count of tablets, ravaged quite a few,
relentless ache continues, regardless what I do.
Emotionally exhausted, stupefied and worn,
heavily I doze as darkness fades to dawn.
Drifting into slumber, my suffering transcends
further night defeated, my torture finally ends.

How could I not give this 5 stars? It is so very well written. I am sorry you have to endure so much pain...I hope they make a better pill that is more effective. This is a brilliant poem though. Great writing x
Being Me, I thank you gratefully for your feedback.
Yes, sadly this is a debilitating disease that can strike anyone and I often regard myself as one of the "lucky one's", having seen many, much worse off and crippled, due to lack of medical support.
Brilliantly write about the effects of arthritis, something not all understand. I hope u have found other remedies to help the pain. Thanks for sharing such this. ?
Oh yes Pratibha, I naturally nourish my body and exercise well. Rheumatism creeps up from any unknown trigger sometimes... could be stress, an undesirable movement, tiedness or something ingested that causes inflammation.
There is no cure, but lifestyle and a good diet certainly helps.
As long as I can still dance, I'm happy.
