Peter The Fireman

Peter was a Fireman, he was good at what he did,
Putting out all kinds of fires, saving both adults and kids,
He was constantly a hero, always on the front page,
Known to approach dangerous fires, in inferno's rage.
The years went on, his front page spot was filled with something new,
He was no longer the hero, he knew what he had to do,
He looked at the paper another time, and suddenly he wasn't there,
It's like he fell off the face of the earth, as if no one cared.
He loved the attention that fire brings, he quickly worked that out,
During a hot dry summer, he went to the bushlands and he would scout,
Drop a bit of fuel down, and a match to set it alight,
Then hurry back to the station, for there was a new fire to fight.
He kept on doing this days on end, and was soon back on the front page,
He couldn't wait for the the morning sun, a pyro out of his cage,
He'd rush out to new spots, and couldn't wait to start a fire,
His lust turned into obsession, his taste for it even higher.
How did this man of hero status, turn into such a beast,
He didn't care if deaths were involved, he didn't care in the least,
At first the people had loved him, then it seemed he didn't exist,
A trained professional firefighter, turned low life arsonist.
One day during a back burn, he saw this as his chance,
He became way too fascinated, with the fires red hot dance,
He started a fire outside the zone, then realised without a doubt,
That the fire he just started, blocked him off and there was no way out.
By the time the flames had reached him, the fire wall was so high,
The panicked firefighter knew it, that he was going to die,
The smoke was thick and choking, and it was burning his lungs,
Then he slumped into the grassland, completely overcome.
There was no sign of Peter, in the station that following day,
The other firefighter's guess what happened and they all started to pray,
The fires dropped off dramatically, for the rest of the fire season,
The firefighters were thankful for that, but now they knew the reason.
